Este é meu lápis.

In less than seven hours I should be strapped in and heading for Florianopolis by way of New York and Sao Paulo.

Still need to pack but it’s not like I’m bringing much in the way of clothes — I’m having a more difficult time with the gear.

I think I’m gonna relax a bit and try to free up some space on the DVR.

I Love You, Man

A nice, little film. I think I prefer it to the other Jason Segal movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Watchmen

This is a visually stunning movie. It is also quite faithful to the graphic novel, of which I have two copies (one a battered trade paperback I’ve had for some time and another, the Absolute Edition, gifted to me by a dear friend).

I could have done with better editing/storyboarding of the first two parts (and you can tell there are "chapters" in the film as definitely as there are chapters in the novel), as the finale felt a little rushed. Some things ought to have been included and others should really have been omitted (if all you’re adding is a genetically bizarre animal without further explanation, it’s kinda pointless).

Overall, however, it’s a fine, fine film.

LA Vote 2009

Mayor: Antonio Villaraigosa

He’s doing fine. Let it ride!

City Attorney: Carmen Trutanich

I admit it, I went with the Times’ endorsement. I also kinda see a weird James Woods’ Shark appeal to this one, being a former environmental lawyer that defended companies now becoming a city attorney. Also, Jack Weiss spammed my mobile. So much for do not call registration. I guess political campaigns are exempt. They shouldn’t be.

Controller: Wendy Greuel

Again went with the Times’ endorsement. Of course, her competition made it easier. Patsaouras should stick with making LA green, he might be too bull in a china shop, though I admit I’m basing this on the Times op-ed. Evans’ website creeps me out.

Member of the Council, 11th District: Bill Rosendahl

The incumbent and the challenger have, at a quick glance, similar agendas. That the challenger doesn’t really provide much more depth on his website as well as supports Evans, whose website creeped me out, settled it.

LAUSD Member of the Board of Education, 4th District: Steve Zimmer

Stryker wouldn’t be bad, either, I guess, but like Jack Weiss, he bombed my mobile with political campaign robocalls. Too bad, so sad.

LACC Member of the Board of Trustees, Seat No. 2: Angela Reddock

Only two contenders had profiles in smartvoter.org, and of those two, only one had a website. You see how my internet generation works, electioneers?

LACC Member of the Board of Trustees, Seat No. 4: Roy Burns

Go with the teacher.

LACC Member of the Board of Trustees, Seat No. 6: Robert Nakahiro

Only those with websites, of course. Of those, we have four. Essavi will not betray Prop 13. I want Prop 13 revised to target homeowners specifically. Bye, Essavi, your views don’t match mine. Akili has a blinking nav menu; this may sound trite, but if you can’t even see why that is bad… and to be honest, he brings up Obama on his site a bit much. No coattails, please. Pearlman is the incumbent and appears to have lost support and I think we do need to shake the board up. Nakahiro was the one who won the endorsement of the DNC over Pearlman, so somewhat via process of elimination (his website’s very basic, but at least it’s readable), Nakahiro it is.

LACC Member of the Board of Trustees, Seat No. 7: Kurt Lowry

Website, website, website.

City of Los Angeles Measure A: YES

Times’ analysis basically says the position shouldn’t exist, but given the current situation, it has to be created. Let’s go with that.

City of Los Angeles Measure B: NO

Forcing a pointless installation of crap solar panels all over the city for very little energy production at great cost is an attempt to "look" green versus "going" green. It’s called DWP Green LA. Stick with that.

City of Los Angeles Measure C: YES

City of Los Angeles Measure D: YES

City of Los Angeles Measure E: NO

You want an incentive to have your business in LA? It’s freakin’ LA. That’s it. You want something to sweeten the deal? Go screw yourself. Right now the charter doesn’t say how this works, so I guess you could say incentives are a gray area. Clarifying it such that incentives are actually written on the charter, however, just feels like a legitimization of a practice I don’t like.
