President/Vice-President: Barack Obama/Joe Biden
The state voted the same. So did the county.
United States Representative; District 36: ?
I couldn’t bring myself to vote for the challenger. I also will never vote for Jane Harman. She held on to her seat. Being a Democrat by party affiliation if not by certain past actions helped.
Member of State Assembly; District 53: Ted Lieu
My district voted with me on this one.
Judge, Superior Court; County of Los Angeles; Office 72: Hilleri Grossman Merritt
Judge, Superior Court; County of Los Angeles; Office 82: Cynthia Loo
Judge, Superior Court; County of Los Angeles; Office 84: Lori-Ann C. Jones
Judge, Superior Court; County of Los Angeles; Office 94: C. Edward Mack
Judge, Superior Court; County of Los Angeles; Office 154: Rocky L. Crabb
Merritt’s the only one I got in. Nuts.
Supervisor; County of Los Angeles; District 2: Mark Ridley-Thomas
Yay, no Parks.
Proposition 1A – Safe, Reliable High Speed Passenger Train: Yes
Good. Even my county agrees.
Proposition 2- Standards for Confining Farm Animals: No
It passed. State and county both want this to happen. Oh, well. Hopefully this won’t kill the industry.
Proposition 3 – Children’s Hospital Bond Act. Grant Program: Yes
Passed x 2.
Proposition 4 – Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of Minor’s Pregnancy: No
This one’s still not called at the time I’m writing this, but it looks like a no. LA County certainly voted no.
Proposition 5 – Nonviolent Drug Offenses, Sentencing, Parole and Rehabilitation: Yes
No x 2. Because people want to shove everybody in jail. Reformation, rehabilitation? Pfft.
Proposition 6 – Police and Law Enforcement Funding. Criminal Penalties and Laws: No
No x 2.
Proposition 7 – Renewable Energy Generation: No
No x 2.
Proposition 8 – Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry: No
The Mormons won. LA County passed this by 0.8%. So maybe in four years we’ll finally be ready to tackle the next social injustice. But for now, fear won.
Proposition 9 – Criminal Justice System. Victims’ Rights. Parole: No
State and county passed this, though it was close. Sigh.
Proposition 10 – Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Renewable Energy. Bonds: No
No x 2. Take that, Mr. Pickens!
Proposition 11 – Redistricting: Yes
Still unknown. LA County voted no, which is weird. Hopefully the state passes it despite that.
Proposition 12 – Veteran’s Bond Act of 2008: Yes
Passed x 2. Duh.
Proposition A – Gang & Youth Violence Prevention, After-School & Job Training Programs — City of Los Angeles (Parcel Tax – Two-Thirds Majority Approval Required): No
Whoa. This needs 66.67% of the vote or something like that. It’s 66.12%. Is that considered 2/3 of the vote?! This is so close, I have no idea if it passed.
Proposition B – Update of Low Rent Housing Authorization — City of Los Angeles (Ordinance – Majority Approval Required): Yes
Passed.
Measure J – Community College Classroom Repair, Public Safety, Nursing & Job Training — Los Angeles Community College District (School Bond – 55% Approval Required): Yes
Passed.
Measure Q – Safe, Healthy Neighborhood Schools — Los Angeles Unified School District (School Bond – 55% Approval Required): No
This passed. No idea how the money will be spent. But it passed.
Measure R – Traffic Relief – Rail Extensions – Reduce Foreign Oil Dependence — Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Sales Tax Increase – Two-Thirds Majority Approval Required): Yes
67% said yes. Passed by a slim margin.
So. I lost a lot of judges there. And the big loss, the really big loss, is the passing of Proposition 8. Because, you see, animals need better treatment, a teeenager has the right to choose, but let’s make sure them gays can’t get married. Voting for Obama because you want change and yet believing you are defending an illusory concept of the tradition of marriage misses the point of change. Of tolerance. Of equality.
Whatever. It passed by 4 points. Proposition 22 in 2000 passed by 20 points. The answer is blowing in the wind. We’ll see this constitutional amendment repealed by another constitutional amendment before I’m 50.
Prop. 8 is passing? What ridiculous backwards bigotry is this?
Christ.
