Redbelt

Han and I caught this movie at a sneak preview over in Brentwood, along with a Q&A at the end with David Mamet.  It’s a good movie.  There are some odd plot oddities concerning the denouement, but it’s of the sort that you forgive in say, a kung fu movie, where you wonder why all the bad guys keep rushing the obviously superhuman martial arts fighter instead of say, ganging up on him at once and using a tazer or something.  So it’s not that bad a plot oddity.  Overall, a good movie with, as usual, really, good dialogue.

The Q&A was one of the best ones I’d attended.  Mr. Mamet’s one sharp man.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Funny movie. Mila Kunis is prettier when she’s not playing a spoiled little rich girl. Jason Segel and the other boys are hilarious. The movie’s a little choppy and some things sort of spin off to nowhere, but overall a fun movie to catch in theaters.

The Visitor

This is a good movie. The characters are interesting, their dreams are heartbreaking. The story moves slowly towards a sad but perhaps hopeful note. Loss brings tears… but it should never end you. Life and the joy in life goes on. So go on.

Run, Fatboy, Run

Pretty formulaic but saved from being generic with a good turn by Mr. Pegg and cast (hell, even Thandie Newton was winning). Enjoyable enough to recommend… but perhaps not full price.

Priceless (Hors de Prix)

Audrey Tautou is purty. Marie-Christine Adam is beautiful and elegant. Gad Elmaleh made Sun realize that the color of a shirt can really change the look of a man. It’s a fun little comedy set in what I assume to be the French Riviera, considering the beach scenery and the money being thrown around. Not a brilliant movie by any means, but certainly an entertaining one while you’re in the theater.

The Bank Job

Not a bad film at all. Acting’s a little wonky, and the action slows down in the middle along with frustration mounting within you as you realize how dumb some of these people are being (ah, the omnipotence of being a voyeur), but that ending’s pretty slick.
