Barcelona, here I come.

Barcelona, here I come.

Note to self:
1. See Pla?a del Rei, entrance by the city museum, Museu d’Hist?ria de la Ciutat, for Roman era remains.
2. The Barri G?tic (”"Gothic Quarter”"), historic center of the city.
3. Parc de la Ciutadella, site of the 1888 “”Universal Exposition”" (World’s Fair)
4. Museu Mar?tim (naval museum)

I suppose somewhere in there I am to let Sun go shopping, as she has given me nothing but grief for not letting her shop in Paris and only giving her two hours in Amsterdam while I was at the Natural History museum. Heh.

In four days I’m going to be on a plane headed for Barcelona.

In four days I’m going to be on a plane headed for Barcelona.

In five days I will be in Barcelona. This is good… except for one little thing: the Bruins made it to the Final Four and I will be 8,000 miles away from my TV.

Sonufabitch.

    have a wonderful time!!!

The Inside Man

I didn’t even know this was a Spike Lee joint until the credit flashed on the screen. Way to downplay, Universal.

Spike Lee continues to push racial themes, as asides and as essential components of the plot. That’s my “”movie critic sentence”", so let’s ignore that and just point out that it’s a good movie, and well worth the full ticket price.

Thank You for Smoking

The point is this: people smoke because they want to or because they allow social pressure or viral advertising to convince them. This is true for anything. The food you eat, the clothes you wear, the statements you make. We are all part of a community that possess morals that contradict greed and desire. In the end, it comes down to choice.

V for Vendetta

It really doesn’t matter if Alan Moore had his association with this film removed out of some perception of gross inaccuracy, because this is by far the most faithful adaptation of his comics yet. Prior to this, all we had was From Hell, which really wasn’t THAT faithful. I’m not going to mention beyond this sentence the crap that was LXG.

So, V. Excellent. Excellent in prose (much of which is verbatim from the comic), excellent in style, and happily appropriately updated (the original addressed the Thatcher administration of the ’80s).

Go see it.

Broken Flowers

A nice, quiet puzzle.

Maverick

Fine enough as a rental. Makes me want to catch up on the TV show more than anything else.

16 Blocks

Nice little big movie. I guess Donner claims the Gauntlet isn’t an influence at all, and that there’s buses in all sorts of other movies. True enough. But this one’s fairly close, and Willis’ character does indeed run a gauntlet.

Good movie.

To Be or Not to Be (1942)

The original starring Jack Benny and Carole Lombard — I can see how this movie would have an edge back in 1942. I also know I slightly prefer the comedy in Mel Brooks’ version while appreciating the deftness of this production. The two really should be viewed as a complementary pair, without choosing one over the other.

For Love of the Game

Sap sap sap. Better editing would have helped, though don’t ask me how, I’m not an editor. I just know it was long.
