The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

Here’s a cult film, much like The Warriors, that I never really got around to watching to completion until now. Sure, I’ve seen bits and pieces, enough such that I can identify geek talk when needed, but the whole thing? No. Not till now.

It’s a fun movie. I can see the cult appeal, but it’s harder to enjoy after missing the boat, unlike The Warriors.

Still, though — this movie does rock.

The Upside of Anger

Actually, I liked this movie. What is it with Costner and baseball roles? They just seem to work. Granted, I haven’t seen the big bomb For the Love of the Game, but it’s coming up in the queue so I’ll have it in hand soon enough.

Yes, I know this isn’t a baseball movie, but Costner plays a baseball player (retired). It counts.

It also helps that I like Joan Allen.

The Scorpion King

In no way would I have been happy about spending $10 to see it in the theater, but as a Netflix rental? Completely fine. Like Kelly Hu. :D

I guess the last Valentine’s Day tribute I wrote was in 2002.

I guess the last Valentine’s Day tribute I wrote was in 2002. 2003 was an ecstatic outburst triggered by sadness (you know how that goes — maybe), and 2004 was the bow out. I didn’t even mention anything last year, so why should this year be any different?

Here, I’ll do something for this one. I’ll put back up the old tributes. Why not.

A new one ain’t worth it. It’s getting to be a long time since I last paid attention to this, to be perfectly honest, very useless and depressing “”holiday”". It’s just there to make couples spend money and lonely people get even lonelier. I’m sure someone has a suicide statistic somewhere, though it probably ranks below Christmas, New Year and Thanksgiving.

So what did we do tonight? Same thing we do every night: try to take over the world.

i think it still is a good reason to just go out and have fun. plus, i like the flowers, even if i keep saying you don’t have to get me flowers… :) the irises meme sent me were beautiful. the intense red with a little hint of orange roses bob gave me made me feel special. and the cards express what one feels… but then, i like special days. everyday is a special day. they just have different names.

The World’s Fastest Indian

Fun little movie about Burt Munro and his heavily modified Scout motorcycle. Enjoyable.

So there’s just no way to turn off commentators, right?

So there’s just no way to turn off commentators, right? I have to listen to them over the music of a MUSICAL NUMBER as they describe what I’M SEEING and then ruin it by going “”.. and eventually they will group together and turn into a dove to symbolize peace.”"

Man. The figure skating events are gonna piss me off all over again. And I haven’t even gotten ’round to ranting about artistic points. Just the commentators and the incessant need to talk.

    figure skating?

Did I miss something earlier in the program?

Did I miss something earlier in the program about how all the music for the opening ceremony at Turin would be either techno, dance, or ’80s?

Okay, wasn’t just me. The commentators just mentioned puzzlement about the use of “”’80s pop tunes”".

  1. mom Says:

yeah… what was that all about the 80’s tunes? i just could not understand it!

Dude, NBC commentators, you’re fucking assholes.

Dude, NBC commentators, you’re fucking assholes just to outright say Costa Rica has no realistic chance of winning at Turin and that they’re there maybe for a personal best. That’s just plain fucked up.

That’s just shit. And man, I’m pretty sure it was Costas, too.

Whoa! 95 Finnish athletes! Betcha Katri just whooted.

You can tell what I’m watching on the tube, can’t ya?

The Constant Gardener

Starts a bit uncertain, but that’s more due to my being tired of Rachel Weisz than anything else. Sun was all right, she had Ralph to look at.

It might be cruel to say but it is true that once they’re done with the flashback bits prior to her death the movie picks up and turns into a right and true romantic tragedy, to the point where you see why Justin, Fiennes’ character, does what he does for the love of Tessa, Weisz’ character; so much so you dismiss Weisz’ rather annoying acting and go with it.

Good movie. Sobering, too. I’m sure if you’re interested in seeing this you know what you’re doing. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, especially when you get to the part where Abuk jumps out of the plane.

Walking Tall (2004)

Ya just gotta love The Rock. All right, I didn’t even try renting Doom, but still, ya gotta love The Rock. And in Walking Tall, he’s not bad at all. Hell, Knoxville’s even tolerable. Decent enough for a rental, bordering on fun.
