From Hell
by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell
Porting this webpage into an Access database, though simple in theory, is proving annoying only because duplicating the web server has been a frustrating education in the pathetic qualities of IIS and user permissions.
Sad, but true.
Ah, well. At least this appears to work.
It’s been a hell of a month, October.
My birthday zinged by and I didn’t really notice. Thankfully, some folks did and dragged my ass out to dinner. Sometimes you need a little ass-dragging.
As kind of a birthday present, but more because I really needed one, I finally built a desktop system. And for once in the twelve years I’ve known Han, I have a better system than him.
Ha!
Of course, the bastard is gonna upgrade come Christmas, so I get two months. Two months… twelve years. Bastardo!
It’s close to a month of contract work over here at Edmunds.com. Nice place, Edmunds, even without the Monday pastries and Friday bagels. Quite a number of characters work in the UI department, one of them being Dan Goldwasser, founder of www.soundtrack.net (www.filmmusic.com), a site I always enjoyed. All of a sudden, there’s an even bigger film music nut in the same room as me.
But yes, life goes on and my contract gig will soon end. Come November 7, yours truly will find himself back on campus. UCLA offered me a job, and I accepted. I’ll be a developer for UCLA Access, working out of the Biomed building and Gonda Hall. Krispy Kreme everyday. Let’s get fat, y’all!
Hmm, maybe I should start writing for the Daily Bruin’s Viewpoint again. Find Donald (David? Daniel? whatever) Carpenter-Rios and call him out, see what other feelings and needs I can exploit and harm. We can consider “”The Fast and the Furious,”" for instance.
And there’s always musicals. I hear “”Flower Drum Song”" is coming to LA. Now there’s something to sink my teeth into and get CAPSA all pissed off again the way they did when I “”defended”" “”Miss Saigon.”"
But who knows? Maybe the whole touchy-feely ultra-sensitive hypocritical politically correct scene is over, and everyone’s finally gotten around to just “”keeping it real.”" (Double Take!)
Sadly, the Daily Bruin only started archiving “”webbable”" issues in 1996, so those articles are lost. You can always check out this one.
Okay. Talk about catch up.
Till the next.
Expecting horrible, got even worse. Sometimes you just can’t win.
Damn they sure tried to cram a lot of the book into this thing.
